Amazon Bedrock is a managed AWS service for building generative AI applications and agents. It gives developers access to hundreds of foundation models from leading AI companies through one API, along with evaluation tools to compare models on performance and cost. Teams can customize models with their own data through Knowledge Bases, Bedrock Data Automation, prompt engineering and fine-tuning, and add Guardrails that block harmful content and check responses with Automated Reasoning. More than 100,000 organizations are said to use it.
It is built for software engineers, ML teams and enterprises that already run on AWS and need production-grade security, privacy and compliance. Bedrock states that it never stores or uses customer data to train models, encrypts data in transit and at rest, and is in scope for standards including ISO, SOC, CSA STAR Level 2, GDPR and FedRAMP High, and is HIPAA eligible. Startups use the same service to try several models before committing to one.
Common projects include virtual assistants, document summarization, copy generation, design and image tasks, workflow automation and data analysis. Amazon Bedrock AgentCore handles deploying agents with any framework and model, connecting them to enterprise systems with access controls, and monitoring them with tracing and evaluation. Cost features matter at scale: Model Distillation produces models that run up to 500 percent faster and cost up to 75 percent less, Intelligent Prompt Routing can cut spending by up to 30 percent, and select models support batch inference at a 50 percent lower price. Pricing depends on modality, provider, model and service tier, with provisioned throughput handled through an account team.
