JetBrains AI Assistant brings AI chat, coding agents and code completion directly into JetBrains IDEs. Developers can use agents included in a JetBrains AI subscription, such as Junie and Codex, or connect their own agents through ACP, bring API keys for their preferred model providers, or run local models. Completion and next edit suggestions arrive through Tab with latency under 200 ms in most cases and use no AI credits, and agents can reach external data sources and tools through the Model Context Protocol.
The audience is professional developers and teams that already work in IntelliJ-based environments and want AI that sees their project context. Individual engineers can try JetBrains AI Pro free for one month, while organizations get management and governance features with visibility into how teams use AI, along with SOC 2 Type 2 certification. Developers who prefer to avoid vendor lock-in appreciate that models, agents and subscriptions can be mixed, and that data sharing is optional and under the user's control.
Day to day, a developer can ask an agent to handle a refactor, then give several agents the same task to compare solutions. Smaller chores sit right in the editor: generating commit messages, explaining an error or exception, writing inline documentation, resolving Git conflicts, helping with database queries and creating unit tests. Before a pull request, the assistant can review uncommitted changes as a first pass ahead of a manual check. Teams can connect agents to APIs, databases and file systems over MCP and manage reusable agent skills in one place through the skills manager.
