Amazon SageMaker JumpStart is a machine learning hub inside AWS that gives teams a fast way to find, evaluate and deploy models. It lists publicly available foundation models from providers such as AI21 Labs, Cohere, Databricks, Hugging Face, Meta, Mistral AI, Stability AI and Alexa for tasks like article summarization and text, image or video generation. It also provides hundreds of built-in algorithms with pretrained models drawn from TensorFlow Hub, PyTorch Hub, Hugging Face and MxNet GluonCV. Models can be customized with your own data and deployed from the user interface or the SageMaker Python SDK. Data stays encrypted inside your virtual private cloud and is not used to train the underlying models.

JumpStart is meant for machine learning engineers, data scientists and platform teams that already work on AWS and want a shortcut from model selection to production. Administrators can control which models are visible to users, which suits larger organizations with governance requirements, while team members share models and notebooks to avoid repeating work. Companies in regulated industries that need private deployments can run foundation models in VPC mode with no internet access. Beginners benefit from pretrained models, and experienced practitioners use the SDK for repeatable deployments.

Typical uses include comparing foundation models on predefined quality and responsibility metrics before picking one, fine-tuning a pretrained model on company data, and deploying text generation for summarization. Built-in algorithms cover common machine learning tasks such as image, text and tabular classification and sentiment analysis. Teams working on large clusters can deploy open-weights models from JumpStart straight to SageMaker HyperPod. Customers such as Slack use it to access foundation models for their own AI features, and large language models available through JumpStart can be called from Redshift ML for SQL-based workflows.

Frequently asked

6 questions
What can I deploy with SageMaker JumpStart?
You can deploy foundation models for text, image and video generation, plus hundreds of built-in algorithms with pretrained models. Deployment works through the UI or the SageMaker Python SDK.
Who uses SageMaker JumpStart?
Machine learning engineers, data scientists and platform teams working on AWS are the main users. Admins can also manage which models their organization sees.
What are some example use cases?
Summarizing articles, generating images and classifying text, image or tabular data are typical tasks. Slack uses JumpStart to access foundation models for Slack AI.
Is my data used to train the models?
None of your data is used to train the underlying models. Data is encrypted and stays inside your virtual private cloud.
Can I run it without internet access?
Foundation models can be used in VPC mode with no internet connectivity. This suits teams with strict network requirements.
How do I get started with JumpStart?
Open it from Amazon SageMaker Studio or use the SageMaker Python SDK. It requires an AWS account.
