Brave Leo is the AI assistant built into the Brave browser. It lets you ask questions, summarize webpages, documents and PDFs, translate text, draft articles and emails, and get suggested code for software and database queries without leaving the current tab. It can analyze Google Docs and Google Sheets, uses Brave Search to enrich answers with current information, and supports saved preferences so replies become more tailored. Conversations are not retained for model training, and no account is needed for the free version. A Premium option adds more models and higher usage limits.
It suits people who already use Brave and want AI help in their daily browsing: students summarizing reading material, professionals triaging long web pages and documents, writers drafting copy, and developers asking for sample code. Privacy-minded users get an assistant that does not link chats to an identity, and technical users can attach their own local or remote models through the Bring Your Own Model feature. It is available on desktop for macOS, Windows and Linux and on Android and iOS.
Example uses include asking for a summary of a long article before reading it, translating a foreign-language page, comparing information across several open tabs, having Leo organize tabs by topic into a new window, extracting the key figures from a PDF, and speaking a question on an iPhone through voice-to-text. Temporary chats leave nothing in history, while regular chats can be stored locally on the device and revisited later in the full-page view or the sidebar.
