Minimax 2.5 anyone tried ?

Hi, I’ve seen lots of topics on the internet about how good and cheap this open-source AI is. There are comparisons saying the performance is similar to Opus 4.6 but way cheaper than that. Has anyone tried it? I’d like to hear your experiences and honest reviews.

I’ve been reading the hype too, so I asked Opus 4.6 about it. I’ve been building an app for the last two months and I had doubts about refactoring, since I don’t really know if the code is truly optimized or not. Opus told me not to touch it, saying I understand the context but MiniMax wouldn’t, and that the current code is already in a good place. It also warned me that a blind refactor could easily introduce messy complications. I didn’t want to risk it, so I haven’t tried MiniMax 2.5 yet.

I’ve been using MiniMax 2.5 for a few days now. Honestly, it’s way better than I expected for the price. It’s fast, it doesn’t feel dumb, and it handles real tasks without falling apart. I swapped out Claude Code just to see how it would hold up. So far, I don’t really miss Claude.
